WHO WE ARE
"Bringing accountability into focus."
Accountability Lens Asia (ALA) keeps corporate promises in sharp focus. We zoom in on animal welfare and sustainability commitments - celebrating real progress and exposing the blurry gaps. Like a lens bringing clarity to a picture, we make sure companies in Asia stay true to their word, pushing for real change where it matters most.
WHY ASIA
Animal welfare in Asia faces significant challenges. For example, Asia is the world’s largest egg producer, yet nearly 90% of its 3 billion laying hens are confined in cages, unable to express natural behaviors. This raises serious concerns not only for the well-being of the animals but also for food safety. While some countries like Bhutan, China, Indonesia, Japan, and Thailand are shifting toward cage-free systems, progress is slow.
At the same time, Asia’s booming population and rapid growth put it at the heart of global sustainability efforts. With its potential to lead in renewable energy, sustainable urban planning, and environmental stewardship, the region must address pressing challenges like deforestation, air pollution, and reliance on fossil fuels.
By tackling both animal welfare and sustainability, Asia can pave the way for a more humane and resilient future.

WHY ACCOUNTABILITY
In a region as vast and diverse as Asia, accountability is the bridge that turns promises into real change. Asia plays a pivotal role in global sustainability and animal welfare, but the challenges are vast—from environmental damage to the widespread confinement of farmed animals. While many companies have made pledges, the gap between promises and progress is often wide. Without accountability, these commitments risk becoming just words, leaving the real issues unaddressed.
By using accountability as our lens, we shine a light on what companies are really doing—celebrating successes and uncovering the gaps. It’s not just about identifying where improvements are needed; it’s about holding companies to their word, pushing them to raise their standards. Whether it’s moving to cage-free systems or reducing their carbon footprint, accountability drives the action needed for lasting change.
